Eldercare Chief Executive Jane Pickering said Local, State and Federal Government members attended a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction.
“This is a major redevelopment for Eldercare and includes building a new extension to accommodate extra aged care beds as well as renovations to our current facilities,” Ms Pickering said.
“The design is sympathetic to the heritage of The Lodge and will integrate well with both our existing buildings and the local area in terms of scale, density, layout and access.
“Sustainability is also a key priority with environmentally-friendly initiatives such as water and energy-saving technologies incorporated into the design.”
Eldercare Board Chair Rev. Dr. Ian Price said the multi-million dollar investment demonstrated the organisation’s long-term commitment to the care of older South Australians.
“The Lodge redevelopment will deliver benefits to residents, families, staff as well as the wider community and will reinforce Eldercare’s position as an aged care leader,” Dr. Price said.
“This upgrade will enhance the quality care already provided at The Lodge and further strengthen our delivery of tailored and person-centred support to ensure the individual needs of residents are met.”
The redevelopment of The Lodge at Wayville is scheduled for completion in April 2016.
