Eldercare volunteers celebrated

Eldercare volunteers have been acknowledged for their contribution at a special morning tea and movie event this week at Wallis Cinema in Mitcham.

Eldercare Chief Executive Jane Pickering said the organisation had more than 300 talented and dedicated volunteers who provided care and community connection to residents.

“For many residents, our volunteers are among their closest friends and most regular visitors,” Ms Pickering said.

“Eldercare, and particularly our Lifestyle programs, would not function the way they do without our volunteers’ time, energy and skills.”

Volunteer Betty Duke was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation and gift in recognition of her continued contribution and dedication to Eldercare residents at Trowbridge House where she has volunteered for 31 years.

“Betty started a member of The Trowbridge Singers and then took over the leadership of the group,” Ms Pickering said.

“Betty runs monthly concerts for residents and is a committed team member at Trowbridge providing residents with entertainment and music that is good for the ears and the soul.”

Ms Pickering also recognised Eldercare volunteers who had received special community awards in 2015.

Ann Kolenberg and Betty Taylor from Allambi and Nan and Kevin Sharp from The Lodge received the 'Premier's Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Volunteer Service'.

Trowbridge House volunteer Pam Horsnell was honoured with a ‘Long Term Commitment to Community Service’ award from the Federal Member for Sturt Christopher Pyne in recognition of her contribution and commitment to aged care.

Nienke Winkelman from Allambi was presented with Rotary’s ‘Keith Walter Award’ for community volunteering recognising local hard working - but often unsung - heroes.
