Ceremony marks handover of Minlaton Hostel for the Aged to Eldercare

A special ribbon cutting ceremony was held today to celebrate the official handover of the Minlaton Hostel for the Aged to Eldercare.

Eldercare Chief Executive Jane Pickering said Yorke Peninsula Mayor Ray Agnew was given the honour of cutting the ribbon at Eldercare South Park to mark the change in management at the 18-bed residential aged care facility.

“It’s wonderful to have Mayor Agnew cut the ribbon today because his involvement sends a powerful message about the Yorke Peninsula’s strong sense of community and how much older residents are valued,” said Ms Pickering.

“Eldercare is proud to be the leading aged care provider in the region offering residential, independent living and home care options and we understand the responsibility that comes with this title as we carry out our commitment to deliver peace of mind to residents, clients and their families.”

Eldercare Board Chair Rev. Dr. Ian Price praised the Minlaton Hostel for the Aged Board for its dedication to the residents and sound management of the facility since it opened in 1993.

“The Minlaton Hostel for the Aged has played a very important role caring for older members of the community for more than 20 years and we are resolute in our commitment to ensure that good work continues,” said Rev. Dr. Price.

“It’s exciting to bring Eldercare’s holistic care approach to South Park which is all about ensuring every individual’s mind, body and spirit is supported and we achieve this by living the values of respect, accountability and connection in everything we do.

“We’re currently introducing a range of modern care approaches across the organisation to deliver the best clinical, dementia and palliative care possible and we are also working more closely with families in an innovative partnership which is giving them the option to play a more active ‘hands on’ role in their loved one’s care if they choose.”

As part of the ribbon cutting celebrations, a new bench with a specially engraved plaque was gifted to residents, families and staff in celebration of the home’s ‘proud history and a new beginning as Eldercare South Park’.

South Park’s four-legged resident and former racing greyhound Katie was also presented with her own chicken and vegetable flavoured ‘cake’ decorated in Eldercare’s corporate colours to mark the event.
