Minlaton aged care facility transfer reaches completion
Eldercare will officially become the new owner of the Minlaton Hostel for the Aged from next Wednesday 27 January 2016.
The Federal Government’s Department of Health gave approval to transfer the license of the 18-bed facility from the Minlaton Hostel Board to Eldercare last month.
“This is great news for both Eldercare and the local community and follows the successful joint management of the facility with the Minlaton Hostel Board for the past five months,” said Acting Eldercare Chief Executive Scott Morgan.
“To coincide with the transition of ownership, we’re pleased to announce Eldercare South Park as the new name – we chose it because it’s how locals have popularly referred to the facility for many years.
“South Park is Eldercare’s third residential aged care facility on the Yorke Peninsula, along with The Village in Maitland and Elanora in Stansbury, and our expansion signals the organisation’s long term commitment to supporting older residents across the region.”
Eldercare Yorke Peninsula Operational Services Manager Mel King said the not-for-profit organisation was now the largest aged care provider on the Yorke Peninsula offering 118 residential aged care beds, 21 retirement living units and 16 home care packages.
“Minlaton has welcomed us with open arms – the facility has been very well run since it opened in 1993 and we’re excited to build on the good work that’s already been done by delivering benefits to residents, their families, staff and volunteers that Eldercare can bring,” said Mrs King.
“We’ll ensure the needs of older members in the community are met now, and in years to come, with a team of staff that’s adequately skilled to provide a high standard of care at South Park.”
Mrs King, who has managed Eldercare facilities on the Yorke Peninsula for the past 15 years, believed there was more to quality residential aged care than ‘fancy buildings and furniture’.
“It’s about the happy, caring and engaging interactions between staff and residents, the general cleanliness of the facility and the warm, inviting, homelike atmosphere where there’s laughter and fun times.”
