Generous donation enhances dining experience at The Lodge

Residents at The Lodge are benefitting from an improved dining experience following a $10,000 donation by former Unley Mayor Richard Thorne.

Mr Thorne’s mother was a previous resident at The Lodge and his donation was used to purchase new furniture for the private dining room in the heritage-listed White House building.

Site Operations Manager Louise Hanialakis recently invited Mr Thorne back to the Wayville facility for morning tea in the private dining room so he could see the difference his donation had made.

“The team at Eldercare are so thankful for Mr Thorne’s donation,” said Ms Hanialakis.

“The brand new dining chairs, tables and armchairs have been a magnificent addition to the private dining room which residents use to celebrate special occasions with their loved ones.”

Mr Thorne had previously made a donation to Eldercare’s College Green retirement village in Kent Town where his mother lived for 15 years before becoming a resident at The Lodge.

“She was looked after very well by Eldercare at both College Green and The Lodge and she liked that family could come and visit freely,” said Mr Thorne.

“I wanted to help by making this donation and when it was suggested that it go towards dining facilities as a part of the new redevelopment, I thought it was a nice way to utilise it.

“I have always thought it important to look after our elderly people in the community and Eldercare at The Lodge do it very well.”

Donations enable Eldercare to provide extra amenities for residents that cannot be supplied through the standard funding from government and resident contributions.
