Chief Executive Jane Pickering congratulated Pennwood Village on their award win and said being named a finalist was an ‘endorsement’ of Eldercare’s commitment to employee engagement.
“Eldercare has an obligation to look after its employees to ensure they can go on to deliver peace of mind to our residents, clients and their families – and this indicates that our strategy is working,” said Jane.
“Our organisational culture has experienced major improvements over the last two years with recent survey results demonstrating a 15% increase in overall employee engagement.
“This increase can be attributed to our employees’ ability to access wellbeing initiatives, rewards and recognition programs, social clubs, flexible hours and job sharing arrangements.”
Other health and wellbeing initiatives Eldercare has introduced include voluntary, confidential counselling services to all Eldercare staff, a flu vaccine program and on-site ‘health checks’ – all of which are free of charge for staff.
People and Culture General Manager Sylvia Powell credited Eldercare’s success to initiatives which support gender equity and diversity across the organisation.
“Eldercare’s commitment to gender equity, demonstrated by our White Ribbon Workplace Accreditation and Jane’s active participation in South Australia’s Chiefs for Gender Equity group has greatly enhanced the organisation’s culture,” said Sylvia.
“Becoming a White Ribbon accredited workplace shows our support for employees who are experiencing family violence and provides them with information and resources they may need to break the cycle.”
Ms Powell said the organisation’s participation in the Rainbow Tick Program extended to creating safe environments for Eldercare’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender diverse and intersex (LGBTI) residents, staff and volunteers.
“We’re excited to be working towards Rainbow Tick accreditation as we welcome, respect and celebrate the diversity that our residents, staff and volunteers bring to Eldercare,” said Sylvia.
“We have also been recognised as a ‘Supportive Employer’ of the Australian Defence Force Reserves as employees can access special leave provisions if they have voluntarily chosen to help play a role in protecting our national security.”
