Holdfast Bay Deputy Mayor officially opens Oxford redevelopment

Holdfast Bay Deputy Mayor Amanda Wilson has today officially opened Eldercare's $4.3m redevelopment of Oxford.

Chief Executive Jane Pickering said the redevelopment had created an opportunity for Eldercare to pioneer a new aged care approach at the 27-bed residential facility at Hove.

“Innovation was ‘top of mind’ when we set about the refit of the building and the premium aged care service we wanted to provide at Oxford,” said Jane.

“By including ensuite bathrooms in all rooms, adding some in-room kitchenettes, a gymnasium, a hairdressing salon, homelike lounge areas and private dining facilities, we’ve created a contemporary facility which supports the delivery of high quality care.

“The addition of these amenities means residents at Oxford now have greater choice and flexibility when deciding how to spend their days.”

Ms Pickering said the renovated facility complemented the new care approach Eldercare had implemented at Oxford.

“We have Wellbeing and Wellness teams consisting of highly-skilled health professionals who work closely with residents and their families to deliver tailored and holistic care,” said Jane.

“By adopting a mind, body and spirit approach to the care we provide, our aim is to achieve a sense of life balance for each individual resident so they are supported mentally, physically and socially to live well.

“We have received extremely positive feedback from residents and families so far and we will continue to monitor the new approach we have introduced and apply any lessons learnt across the organisation.”

Board Chair James Lawes said Eldercare had made a significant investment in state-of-the-art mobile technology to support the new care approach at Hove.

“The use of mobile touchscreen computer technology is providing staff with greater flexibility – they are no longer ‘desk bound’ when recording information because they can now make updates from anywhere in the building and be more responsive to residents’ needs.

“We’ve also given residents wearable fitness devices so staff can work with individuals on achieving optimal health and provided personal, mobile call bell pendants so staff can quickly locate a resident and respond if they need assistance.

“We hope that by pioneering innovations like this at Oxford we can deliver even greater peace of mind to residents and their families and honour our values of respect, accountability and connection.”

Eldercare celebrated the official opening of the Oxford redevelopment by staging two events which were attended by residents, family members, staff, industry representatives and local dignitaries.
