Celebrations to mark Trowbridge House refurbishment

Residents, volunteers and staff celebrated the $1m refurbishment project of Eldercare's Payneham residential care facility Trowbridge House yesterday.

Refurbishment Project Manager Mark Butler said the refurbishment program involved a range of building and technological upgrades which will help the organisation fulfil its purpose of delivering peace of mind.

“One of the most important upgrades was the establishment of a small dining area and food servery on the first floor which will provide a more convenient dining option for residents who live upstairs,” said Mark.

“Residents can also now enjoy a fresher and brighter living environment, with new paint, floor coverings, furnishings, curtains and artwork to create more homelike environments.

“The installation of an advanced nurse call bell system will further enhance response times and enable nursing staff to find residents, and help them, more quickly and easily.”

Other refurbishments, including a new nurses’ station on the first floor and an observation window in the Memory Support Unit, will allow clinical teams to work more effectively and make it easier for them to provide care.

Eldercare resident John Hannan, who spoke at yesterday’s ceremony and has been living at the facility since 2015, said that Trowbridge House ‘feels like home’ and the staff are like family to him.

“I live, eat and sleep at Trowbridge House but outside those two front doors is a big world for me to explore and I want a piece of it!” said John.

“Eldercare staff support me to get out and enjoy Adelaide by making sure I am ready on time and supporting my routines.”

John said the recent upgrades were ‘excellent’.

“Like all construction work, it was noisy and interrupted our routines at times but I knew it was for a good reason!”

Guests enjoyed afternoon tea following a celebratory cake cutting at the event.
