Eldercare celebrated pride and diversity at the 2021 Feast Festival

A team of Eldercare staff, volunteers and members of the LGBTIQ Advisory Group hosted a stall at the 2021 Picnic in the Park, held as part of Feast, Adelaide’s queer arts and cultural festival, on 28 November to demonstrate that Eldercare is a welcoming and supportive place for LGBTIQ residents, staff, volunteers and families.

“It was a superb day with the sun shining and all those attending in a happy mood celebrating that the picnic was able to go ahead after last year’s cancellation,” said Eldercare ElderPRIDE Coordinator Christine Morris.

"The Eldercare stall was grouped with other aged care providers and together we hosted a Shared Ground where people could sit, rest and eat.”

Eldercare staff and volunteers engaged with Feast visitors by handing out jellybeans, hand sanitisers and doggie treats. People could also guess the number of jellybeans in a jar to win the jar and jellybeans with almost 200 people registered to guess the lucky number.

“We were pleased to speak with attendees about Eldercare’s services but to also raise awareness that Eldercare is a Rainbow Tick accredited aged care organisation,” said Chris.

“People visiting the stall were excited to see that a residential aged care provider had achieved the Rainbow Tick. All in all, a fabulous day was had by everyone.”

Feast is one of 11 major festivals in South Australia and Adelaide’s only not-for-profit LGBTIQ+ queer arts and cultural festival that celebrates pride and diversity.

The Feast Festival began in 1997 providing a safe and inclusive platform for the LGBTIQ+ community to share and express themselves through art and culture.
