Eldercare celebrates International Women's Day

Eldercare residents and staff marked International Women's Day last week with site-based celebrations held across the organisation.

Celebrations were held at Eldercare’s Head Office and 11 residential aged care sites across the Greater Adelaide and Yorke Peninsula regions.

At Eldercare’s Head Office, staff were encouraged to bring photos of inspirational women to display on a feature wall.

Staff and residents at Sash Ferguson in Mount Barker enjoyed a high tea where Mount Barker Mayor Anne Ferguson was special guest.

The Lodge in Wayville celebrated with a ‘Ladies’ High Tea’ and fashion parade.

Residents and employees at The Village in Maitland were encouraged to recall, and share, moments where they felt ‘empowered’, ‘brave’ and ‘courageous’.

Chief Executive Jane Pickering said Eldercare’s International Women’s Day celebrations held across the organisation were ‘a step in the right direction’ towards promoting greater gender equity.

“It was wonderful to see the many examples of women’s contributions to society,” said Ms Pickering.

“82 per cent of Eldercare employees are female so it is essential for us to mark these occasions and show our support to women in the workplace and the wider community.”

“We encourage a culture where women and men’s contributions are valued equally and these celebrations give us the opportunity to communicate this message to all Eldercare staff.”

International Women’s Day is celebrated on 8 March each year and the theme for celebrations in 2017 was “Be Bold for Change”.
