More than 150 volunteers braved the wild weather last Friday afternoon to tour the Adelaide Oval before enjoying lunch with their colleagues and peers.

Eldercare Chief Executive Jane Pickering thanked volunteers for their commitment and said the organisation would not be able to operate without their valuable contributions.

This year’s event marked the first time in a number of years that volunteers from all sites were represented even though some from the Yorke Peninsula were unable to make the trip due to bad weather.

Eldercare Volunteer Program Coordinator Jennifer Dunkley said the Adelaide Oval event was a time of ‘thanks and celebration’.

“Gathering a large part of the team from all sites in one place helps all volunteers and staff see that they are part of a wider team who are all working for the same cause and facing the same issues,” said Jennifer.

“Everyone has their own skills that they bring together to create some amazing experiences for our residents.

“A smile that appears because of a visit or a memory that has returned, even for a moment, because of a conversation is a poignant reminder of the significance of our volunteers’ involvement.”
