Helping others is the secret to living a long life

According to Lena Aldous, who celebrated her 100th birthday earlier this month, helping others and being 'as active as I possibly can' are the key reasons she has made it to a century.

Lena, who lives at Eldercare’s aged care home in Seaford, celebrated her milestone birthday over several days, spending time with her four sons, and some of her 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

"I was only expecting a few people, but a whole lot turned up!" Lena said of her birthday party at the Morphett Arms Hotel.

For her birthday, Lena had a few simple requests: some hot chips, a banana split and home-cooked shepherd's pie.

However, an unexpected birthday surprise was a visit from Chris Picton MP last Friday, where Lena was presented with another bunch of flowers to add to her collection!
