Sash Ferguson residents some of the first to receive COVID-19 vaccine

Residents at Eldercare’s aged care home in Mt Barker were given the opportunity to receive the COVID-19 vaccine yesterday afternoon.

Eldercare Operational Services Executive Anne-Marie Gillard said that it was excellent to see that aged care residents are being prioritised during the vaccination rollout.

“Given that older people are more at risk of serious infection from COVID-19, it is vital that this cohort are protected against the virus first,” said Anne-Marie.

“I thank the Federal Government for recognising this and ensuring that our residents can take every precaution as we, as a community, work to eradicate COVID-19.”

Sash Ferguson resident Teresa Prior said she was pleased to receive her vaccination.

“It would be silly not to, it’s the only way to manage [the virus],” said Teresa.

Another resident said the group was ‘lucky to get the vaccine so early’.

48 residents and over 20 staff members were vaccinated at the Mt Barker site yesterday.

Residents at Eldercare’s remaining 10 aged care homes will be given the opportunity to receive the vaccine in the near future, however the details on when this will occur are currently unknown.
