Our palliative approach
Eldercare’s palliative approach aims to improve quality of life for residents with a life limiting illness and their families.
Our palliative approach
Eldercare’s palliative approach is not restricted to the last days or weeks of life, it also helps people experience a dignified and comfortable passing.
Lead by our senior nurse practitioner, Eldercare’s palliative approach respects the choices and preferences identified in each resident’s advance care plan. It includes the early identification, assessment and treatment of pain and relief of symptoms such as shortness of breath or vomiting. Where a resident has particularly complex symptoms or issues, Eldercare’s staff can work in partnership with specialist palliative care providers to optimise care.
Our approach also responds to people’s emotional, cultural and spiritual needs. Eldercare’s chaplains are available to help residents and their family’s journey through the issues of death, loss and grief and support those who want to explore ethical, moral and other ultimate concerns.
