Construction began today on a new 100-bed premium aged care home in Goodwood.

Eldercare will open the new 100-bed Eldercare Goodwood aged care home on its 8,200 sqm site on Victoria St in Goodwood in 2023, following extensive consultation to determine the living requirements of future residents.

A team of Eldercare staff, volunteers and members of the LGBTIQ Advisory Group hosted a stall at the 2021 Picnic in the Park, held as part of Feast, Adelaide’s queer arts and cultural festival, on 28 November to demonstrate that Eldercare is a welcoming and supportive place for LGBTIQ residents, staff, volunteers and families.

140 bags were filled and then donated to Share the Dignity to help women and girls in need over Christmas and ensure they receive the basic essentials – including pads and tampons, deodorant, toothbrush and toothpaste, shampoo and soap – as well as little luxuries such as hair accessories or a handwritten note.

Residents and staff at Wayville aged care home The Lodge were transported (in spirit) to the Scottish Highlands when the Scotch College Pipe Band and Highland Dancers performed last week.

Eldercare’s ElderPRIDE Program, introduced to ensure that Eldercare is a welcoming and supportive organisation for LGBTIQ residents, staff, volunteers and families, was named the winner of the Social Inclusion category in the Future of Ageing Awards.

The short film ‘You can ask that’, produced by Eldercare in 2020 to ‘debunk the myths’ that are still out there surrounding LGBTIQ people, has been named a finalist in the 2021 ACSA Aged Care Awards for South Australia.

Last week the residents and staff at Wayville aged care home The Lodge were treated to a special visit from Henry the Clydesdale.

Aged Care Employee Day is commemorated each year on 8 August with its purpose being to celebrate Australia’s aged care workforce which is made up of over 360,000 individuals who contribute to caring for older people.
