Dementia Excellence Program Manager Sarah Jamieson said it will be the third year in a row that Eldercare has participated in Dementia Australia’s annual fundraising event.

“We’ve had great fun taking part in this event over the past two years and we’re hoping that Team Eldercare 2018 will be our biggest group yet by encouraging as many staff and family members as possible to enter,” said Sarah.

“Participants have the choice of walking a 3 or 6 kilometre return circuit along the beach between Glenelg and Somerton Park or completing a 10 kilometre run to West Beach and back.”

Ms Jamieson, who received a Churchill Fellowship in 2017 to research best practice care for people living with younger onset dementia, said it was important for Eldercare to support Dementia Australia’s fundraising efforts.

“Dementia Australia estimates that more than 400-thousand Australians are living with dementia – that means there are 400-thousand families whose lives are also affected as they care for their loved ones,” said Sarah.

“The services Dementia Australia provides here in South Australia help ensure that these individuals and families are not alone and have access to counselling, support groups and other resources as they adjust to a diagnosis of dementia.

“In my experience at Eldercare, I know families who have benefitted greatly from the support Dementia Australia provides so it is wonderful to have an opportunity to give back and help raise funds so that the organisation can continue the great work it has been doing.”

The 2018 Dementia Australia Memory Walk and Jog will be held at Colley Reserve in Glenelg on Sunday 18 March from 7am.

Eldercare employees as well as their two and four legged family members can register to join Team Eldercare 2018 through the Dementia Australia Memory Walk and Jog website.

Donations to Team Eldercare 2018 can also be made through the Memory Walk & Jog website.
