‘Epic’ donation for domestic violence prevention

Eldercare Site Operations Manager Ryan Midgley will present a donation of more than $15,000 to White Ribbon on Friday for domestic violence prevention programs.

Ryan, who is also a White Ribbon Ambassador, made $15,045 through fundraising activities supporting his 10-day Mawson Trail Epic bike ride from Adelaide to Blinman in May.

“It’s been two months since I finished the 938 kilometre ride to the Flinders Ranges with my mates Scott Boerth and Tristan Jones and we made memories that will last a lifetime,” said Ryan.

“The Mawson Trail Epic had everything and it was the hardest physical and mental challenge I have ever had to do.

“We never lost sight of why we were riding, and who we were riding for, and that’s what got us through the hard times especially when we were caught in hail or stuck in mud.”

Ryan exceeded his original fundraising target of $10,000 and said the support and donations they received from locals who lived in towns along the route including Tanunda, Jamestown and Hawker were the highlights of the ride.

Ryan’s commitment to domestic violence prevention stemmed from the lead role he played in helping Eldercare gain White Ribbon workplace accreditation in 2018.

As an accredited organisation, Eldercare promotes a culture of safety where employees can confidentially discuss the personal impacts of domestic violence and are supported to take the necessary steps to ensure their welfare.

The organisation has implemented a range of initiatives including paid domestic violence leave and individualised risk assessments and safety plans for employees who may be experiencing violence.

Additional training has also been provided to senior managers so they have the skills to respond to employees who may seek support.

Ryan will present his donation and share stories from his Mawson Trail Epic at the Adelaide White Ribbon Night fundraising event this Friday 26 July at the Woodville Town Hall.

Tickets start from $30 and can be purchased via www.trybooking.com/501221.
