White Ribbon Day at Eldercare: there’s no good reason for ignoring men’s violence against women
Friday 17 November 2023 is White Ribbon Day, a day on which White Ribbon will ‘call all men to make women’s safety a men’s issue’.
Eldercare will be recognising White Ribbon Day throughout the month of November by holding local events across our sites, raising awareness about domestic and family violence, and encouraging the community to consider how we can contribute to a safe and respectful environment for all.
Eldercare Chief Executive Jane Pickering said the organisation is incredibly proud to be part of the White Ribbon Australia Workplace Accreditation Program, which supports employees experiencing domestic and family violence.
“Eldercare encourages respectful relationships, gender equity and a zero tolerance to violence against women,” said Jane.
“These events are a reminder for staff that gender-based violence will not be tolerated and that employees who may be experiencing violence can access the support available from Eldercare.
“These events also demonstrate to our residents and families that Eldercare truly cares for our staff and takes meaningful and practical steps to offer support to victims.”
As part of its commitment to supporting employees, Eldercare provides training to all managers and supervisors in how to respond to and manage disclosures of domestic and family violence, so employees can be confident that their manager will be able to respond in an informed and appropriate way.
